Physical Demands: The nature of this position also requires the employee to perform a wide range of physical activities, ranging from pushing and pulling, lifting and carrying heavy objects (50-70 lb), to sitting, climbing, crouching, kneeling, bending and handling with repetitive hand and finger movements. Vision requirements include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to focus.

Work Environment: The employee constantly works near moving electrical components and mechanical parts, and is frequently exposed to welding fumes and airborne particles. The employee may also be at risk of experiencing flash burns, skin burns, electrical shocks and high noise levels. Personal Protective Equipment must always be worn (including, but not limited to: CSA approved safety boots, safety eyewear, earplugs).

Job Description
Duties for this position will include, but not be limited to, the following:

  • Receiving paint, welding wire, steel coils, wood, strapping and miscellaneous products when they arrive from a supplier;
  • Deliver materials to the appropriate area within our facility;
  • Taking inventory of paint, miscellaneous items on a regular basis to maintain adequate supply;
  • Operating crane while ensuring proper slinging techniques are employed to safely receive and stage steel coils, rollformer paint, etc.;
  • Operating forklift to receive and deliver materials to proper area of shop and/or maintenance department;
  • Operating forklift to pick up bridging as required; and to enter bridging production into a computer.
  • Operating stair climber to deliver paper and other materials to second floor offices;
  • Preparing waste for shipment including hazardous waste, scrap drums, strapping, trash;
  • Driving to suppliers’ locations to make just-in-time pickups of parts and supplies;
  • Load checking as per the requirement;
  • Preparing the hardware (nuts and bolts) as per demand;
  • May be assigned to assist in the yard when required;
  • Shunting trailers around yard as required;
  • Practicing good housekeeping including 5S and time management in the performance of daily duties;
  • Complying with all legislated and company’s health, safety, environmental, quality and Lean policies,
  • procedure and programs;
  • All other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Significant crane and forklift experience in an industrial setting;
  • Flexibility and patience to handle multiple requests;
  • Ability to work at a pace established by production standards;
  • Demonstrated time management and organization skills to handle multiple priorities;
  • Ability to read and sign paperwork, and enter information into computer;
  • Position is subject to temperature extremes while receiving materials based on outdoor temperature;
  • Position requires at least a “G” license. Would be a definite asset if previous experience includes shunting
  • trucks or possess AZ license;
  • Good command of English is a must to interact with delivery drivers and suppliers’ personnel.
